Harni Lake Tragedy Suspect Apprehended at Ahmedabad Airport
Dharmin Bhatani, alleged partner in the boat capsizing incident that claimed 14 lives, arrested after fleeing abroad
Vadodara : A key suspect in the Harni Lake boat tragedy, Dharmin Bhatani, has been arrested by Vadodara police at Ahmedabad airport. Bhatani, accused of being a partner in the Koticha project that operated the ill-fated boat, was apprehended upon his return from abroad on Saturday.
The incident, which occurred on January 18th, 2024, resulted in the tragic death of 14 individuals, including 12 children. Bhatani allegedly fled the country the same night, flying to Singapore and subsequently Bangkok. However, with Vadodara police swiftly seizing his bank accounts and credit cards, his options dwindled.
Determined to bring him to justice, the investigation team traced Bhatani's movements and secured international cooperation to confirm his location. As his financial resources became limited, Bhatani was forced to return to India, landing at Ahmedabad airport. He was promptly apprehended by police stationed there, alerted by the Immigration Department.
Bhatani is believed to have held a 5% stake in the Koticha project and possessed signing authority alongside another accused, Vatsal Shah. With his arrest, police aim to gather crucial information pertaining to the boat's operation and safety standards. He will be presented in court for remand proceedings, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
This arrest serves as a reminder of the authorities' commitment to holding those responsible accountable, even when they attempt to evade justice. As the investigation progresses, Bhatani's role in the tragedy and the culpability of others involved will hopefully be brought to light.
