BJP Files Nominations for Four Rajya Sabha Seats from Gujarat
JP Nadda, Mayank Nayak, Govind Dholakia, and Jaswant Singh Parmar Enter the Fray
Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad - On the final day for filing nominations for the four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fielded four candidates, including party's national president JP Nadda, Mayank Nayak, Govind Dholakia, and Jaswant Singh Parmar.
JP Nadda arrived at Ahmedabad airport this morning to submit his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election from Gujarat. He was welcomed by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and BJP State President CR Patil.
Currently, out of the 11 Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat, two seats are held by non-Gujaratis, including JP Nadda and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. With Congress's representation dwindling, as the only Congress MP, Shakti Singh Gohil, is set to complete his term in June 2026, the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat will soon be devoid of any Congress presence.
The BJP has made efforts to ensure regional balance in its Rajya Sabha representation, with one Leuva Patel and two OBCs from North and Central Gujarat being nominated. Given BJP's strong majority in the state assembly, with 156 MLAs, it is expected that all four BJP candidates will win the seats unopposed.
JP Nadda, originally from Himachal Pradesh, has had a long political career, starting from his student days. He has served in various capacities within the BJP and the government, including as a Rajya Sabha MP, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and National Working President of the BJP before becoming the National President in 2020.
Mayank Nayak, a prominent OBC face from Mehsana, has been actively involved in BJP's OBC Cell and has led campaigns like Meri Mitti Mera Desh. Govind Dholakia, a well-known Patidar industrialist from Surat, is recognized for his contributions to water conservation in Saurashtra. Jashwant Singh Parmar, a respected doctor from Godhra and an executive member of Bakshi Panch Morcha of Panchmahal, brings his community's support to the BJP's fold.
