South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry Takes Initiative in Bridging Healthcare Gap
Surat - In a bid to address pressing healthcare challenges and foster awareness about holistic well-being, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in conjunction with the South Gujarat Chamber Trade and Industry Development Center, orchestrated the 'Health and Wellness Expo - 2024'. The event, spanning three days from February 10 to 12, unfolded at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Center, Sarsana, drawing attention to critical healthcare issues and initiatives in the region.
The inauguration of the expo witnessed the esteemed presence of Surat city's first citizen, Mayor Dakshesh Mavani, alongside the distinguished Chief Guest, Municipal Commissioner of Surat Municipal Corporation, Shalini Aggarwal. Chamber of Commerce President Ramesh Vaghasia set the tone for the event by highlighting India's current healthcare standings on the Global Health Security (GHS) index, stressing the imperative for progress in various facets of healthcare delivery.
Vaghasia emphasized the need for advancements in prevention, detection, rapid response, and overall health system compliance with international standards. He underscored India's prowess in detection while acknowledging the necessity for enhancements across all metrics. Notably, Vaghasia emphasized the role of such expos in catalyzing investments and fostering advancements in the healthcare sector.
The expo also spotlighted specialized healthcare services available in South Gujarat, particularly in Surat. Mayor Dakshesh Mavani highlighted the efforts of Surat Municipal Corporation in expanding healthcare infrastructure to cater to the needs of the underprivileged, citing the construction of a 600-bed hospital and plans for a 1200-bed facility at Smemer Hospital. Moreover, ongoing initiatives, including monthly OPD services by specialist doctors from Mumbai, underscored the city's commitment to accessible healthcare.
Shalini Aggarwal, Municipal Commissioner of Surat Municipal Corporation, commended the Chamber of Commerce for spearheading an exhibition focused on health and wellness. Stressing the symbiotic relationship between economic prosperity and public health, Aggarwal emphasized the pivotal role of initiatives like the expo in driving Surat's holistic development.
The event concluded with expressions of gratitude from Chamber of Commerce Vice President Vijay Mewawala and Honorary Seceretary Nikhil Madrasi, who oversaw the proceedings. Health and Wellness Expo Chairperson Dr. Parul Vadgama provided insights into the expo's objectives, while the presence of esteemed individuals, including former chamber president Himanshu Bodawala and honorary treasurer Kiran Thummar, underscored the collaborative efforts towards fostering healthcare advancements in the region.
