Long-Awaited Dream Homes Remain Unattainable for Surat Beneficiaries

Gujarat Housing Board's Delayed Allotment Frustrates Low-Income Residents

Surat, Gujarat: Despite being completed five years ago, low-income families and middle-class beneficiaries in the Jahangirabad area of Surat are still waiting for their promised homes from the Gujarat Housing Board (GHB). Anger and frustration continue to grow among those who have been waiting for possession of their flats since 2016-17.

The flats, located in Jahangirabad Beside Veer Savarkar, were initially promised to be handed over to beneficiaries by 2022. However, as 2023 unfolds, the waiting families have yet to receive their long-awaited homes. Officials from the GHB have reportedly failed to provide satisfactory responses to their inquiries.

Today, the beneficiaries gathered to voice their concerns to the Gujarat Housing Board in a memorandum, expressing their dissatisfaction with the continued delays and lack of communication.

One of the beneficiaries, Ganeshbhai, shared his personal struggle, stating that they have encountered various issues due to the delayed possession of their homes. Problems range from difficulties in enrolling their children in schools to the financial burden of paying rent on their current accommodations.

While the beneficiaries have submitted applications to receive subsidies according to GHB rules, they remain stuck in limbo, unsure of when they will finally receive the homes they were promised.
