Rajkot to House World's First Kidney-Shaped Hospital and Research Center

Rajkot - In a significant development, plans for the world's inaugural kidney-shaped hospital and research center are underway in Rajkot, Gujarat. The state government has allocated land to the BT Savani Kidney Hospital, marking a pivotal step towards the realization of this innovative medical facility. With construction on the horizon, Rajkot is poised to emerge as a major medical hub in the region.

Amidst a landscape dotted with landmarks like the Statue of Unity and the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat is set to witness the construction of a distinctive medical institution. The kidney-shaped hospital, a first of its kind globally, will grace the city of Rajkot, situated in the heart of Saurashtra, Gujarat. This architectural marvel reflects a unique approach to healthcare infrastructure.

The announcement of the kidney-shaped hospital comes at a time when Rajkot is gearing up to welcome the state's inaugural AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences). Notably, Gujarat's first AIIMS is also slated for Rajkot, underscoring the city's growing prominence in the healthcare sector.

The BT Savani Kidney Hospital will not only cater to treatment needs but will also house a research center. This facility will attract medical professionals and scholars from around the world, fostering innovation and collaboration in kidney-related research. Under the ambit of the Smart City initiative, architects from various locales will craft twin towers in the distinctive shape of kidneys, symbolizing the hospital's mission.

The inception of this groundbreaking hospital stems from the vision of the Savani Kidney Hospital, which has been serving the Saurashtra and Kutch regions for over two decades. Established in 1998 by visionaries Dr. Pradeepbhai Kansagra, Devjibhai Patel, Jayantibhai Faldu, and Rameshbhai Patel, the Saurashtra Kidney Research Institute laid the foundation for the BT Savani Kidney Hospital.

The establishment of the kidney-shaped hospital is poised to attract patients from far and wide, positioning Rajkot as a destination for world-class kidney treatment. With the recent inauguration of the international airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the impending launch of AIIMS Rajkot, the city is on track to offer unparalleled medical facilities.

Coincidentally, Gujarat is also home to the world's first kidney transplant university, the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center (IKDRC), inaugurated in Ahmedabad in 2015. This confluence of pioneering medical institutions underscores the state's commitment to advancing healthcare on a global scale.
