No Link Between Youth Heart Attacks and COVID Vaccine, Says Gujarat Health Minister

Gujarat Health Minister Hrishikesh Patel debunked claims linking heart attacks among youth to COVID-19 vaccine side effects, terming them "baseless." Addressing the state Assembly on Monday, he emphasized that no deaths have been attributed to the vaccine and attributed weakened lungs due to COVID-19 as a potential cause for such incidents.

Minister Patel's statement came in response to a query by Congress MLA Imran Khedawala during the budget session. He further provided updates on the JN1 variant situation in Ahmedabad, stating that 80 cases were treated within the city and district as of January 31st, 2024. The government, he assured, is implementing a "Test-Track-Treatment-Vaccination-Covid Appropriate Behavior" strategy to effectively manage the variant.

As part of this strategy, suspected contacts of JN1 patients are under close monitoring, with home-based and hospital care provided as needed. Additionally, door-to-door awareness campaigns are being conducted to gather information about the variant's spread.

The Minister also highlighted the state's robust testing infrastructure, with 207 approved laboratories (111 government and 96 private) equipped to handle COVID-19 testing. He reassured the public about adequate medicine and equipment stock in health centers and ongoing awareness initiatives.

Overall, Minister Patel's statements aimed to allay concerns regarding the JN1 variant and assure the public of the government's proactive approach in managing the situation. The emphasis on testing, contact tracing, treatment, and preventive measures underscores the state's commitment to safeguarding public health.
