Gujarat's Border Jewel Takes Center Stage: Dhordo to Shine in Republic Day Parade
Gandhinagar : Gujarat, a pioneer in social, political, industrial, and cultural development, will showcase its vibrant heritage on the national stage this Republic Day. A tableau themed "Dhordo: Global Identity of Gujarat's Border Tourism" will roll down Rajpath in New Delhi on January 26, celebrating the unique charm of this village nestled in the heart of the Rann of Kutch.
Dhordo's recent inclusion in the UNWTO's list of Best Tourist Villages catapulted this tiny border outpost into the international spotlight. It not only exemplifies resilience and progress within the "Developed India" vision but also stands as a beacon for promoting border tourism. This year's Republic Day parade, with a total of 25 tableaux representing 16 states, Union Territories, and Central Government departments, will witness Dhordo's captivating story unfold for the world.
A Glimpse into Dhordo's Tale:
The tableau takes viewers on a captivating journey through Dhordo's transformation. Despite harsh environmental and geographical challenges, this village has emerged as a tourism powerhouse, defying all odds. A rotating globe sets the scene, showcasing Gujarat's location and zooming in on Dhordo. Traditional Kutchi "Bhungas" stand tall, representing the village's rich heritage. Local handicrafts, lacquer art, and vibrant music come alive, depicting the skills and spirit of the community. Foreign tourists dressed in traditional garb, paying digitally for exquisite artifacts, highlight the seamless blend of tradition and technological advancement in Dhordo.
This breathtaking tableau, brought to life by the Gujarat Information Department under the guidance of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Avantika Singh Aulakh, Director Dheeraj Parekh, and Additional Director Arvind Patel, further celebrates Rann Utsav, Tent City, and the exquisite embroidery and weaving arts of Kutch. Women adorned in vibrant attire twirling in the graceful Garba dance complete the picture, bringing Gujarat's historical and cultural tapestry to life.
UNESCO's recent recognition of Garba as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage" adds another layer of pride to this showcase. The tableau artists, Pankajbhai Modi and Deputy Information Director Sanjay Kachot, have meticulously crafted a narrative that not only celebrates Dhordo's success but also embodies the essence of a vibrant, progressive India.
