Miracle at New Civil Hospital: Doctors Save Premature Newborn Baby, Weight Doubles After 74 Days of Care

Surat : In a story of hope and medical marvel, a team of doctors at the New Civil Hospital in Surat saved the life of a premature baby girl born weighing only 700 grams. Through 74 days of intensive care and unwavering dedication, they not only stabilized the fragile infant but also helped her double her weight, bringing immense joy to her family.

Roshni Sharma, a 29-year-old mother from Godadara, delivered her baby girl prematurely on October 31st, 2023. The newborn, battling for survival with underdeveloped organs and struggling lungs, weighed a mere 700 grams. The private hospital where Roshni delivered gave the bleak news – with a hefty treatment cost of Rs. 7-8 lakhs, the baby's chances were slim.

Desperate and financially constrained, Roshni's family turned to the New Civil Hospital for help. There, a ray of hope emerged. The dedicated team of doctors in the pediatric department, led by Dr. Jigisha Patodiya, Dr. Upendra Choudhary, and Dr. Prafulla Bambrolia, along with skilled resident doctors and nursing staff, took on the challenging task of saving the fragile infant.

Dr. Bambrolia described the immense hurdles they faced. "The baby's lungs were underdeveloped, her organs lacked maturity, and only 30% of such cases see survival," he shared. Yet, they persevered. They carefully administered injections to open her lungs, tackled infections, and provided specialized care for her undeveloped eyes.

For 19 agonizing days, the tiny fighter remained on a ventilator, battling for each breath. Six days with C-PAP and five more on oxygen followed. But gradually, with each passing day, the team's meticulous care yielded results. The little one, defying all odds, began to heal and grow stronger.

After 74 days of relentless efforts, the miracle unfolded. Not only did the baby survive, but her weight had miraculously doubled to a healthy 1.4 kg. Now, as preparations are underway for her discharge, immense joy fills the air.

This remarkable story stands as a testament to the exceptional skills and dedication of the medical professionals at the New Civil Hospital. It also shines a light on the crucial role of public healthcare in providing life-saving treatment to those who need it most, regardless of their financial background. Roshni's baby girl, once clinging to life, is now ready to face the world, a symbol of hope and the unwavering spirit of human care.
