55th Organ Donation Marks Milestone at Surat's New Civil Hospital
Tribal Youth's Generosity Saves Four Lives in a Successful Organ Donation
In a poignant display of generosity, the New Civil Hospital in Surat achieved its 55th successful organ donation on Thursday, as Fatesingbhai Chaudhary's kidneys, liver, and lungs were donated, offering a new lease of life to four individuals.
Fatesingbhai Chaudhary, a 31-year-old tribal youth residing in Mandvi, Surat district, was tragically declared brain dead after a cycling accident under Kamrej Udhognagar Bridge on January 13, 2024. The collision from behind resulted in a sudden fall, prompting an unknown individual to alert the family about the incident. Fatesingbhai was initially taken to Kamrej Government Hospital and later to Deenbandhu Hospital, Kholwad, Kamrej, for further treatment.
Despite concerted medical efforts, Fatesingbhai's health deteriorated, and he was eventually transferred to New Civil Hospital in emergency on January 14, 2024. On Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 2:50 pm, a team of medical professionals, including RMO Dr. Ketan Nayak, Dr. Nilesh Kachhariya, Dr. Paresh Jhanjmera, and Dr. Keyur Prajapati, declared him brain dead.
Fatesingbhai's grieving family, comprising his father Narottambhai and mother Kankuben Chaudhary, were approached by the hospital's RMO, Dr. Ketan Nayak, along with Dr. Nilesh Kachadia, Iqbal Kadiwala from the Gujarat Nursing Council, and Counselor Nirmala Kathud. The medical team explained the critical importance of organ donation, leading to the family's compassionate decision to donate Fatesingbhai's organs.
Following the family's consent, both kidneys and the liver were successfully transplanted in Ahmedabad at K.D. Hospital, while the lungs were transported to Global Hospital in Mumbai. The entire organ donation process was executed under the guidance of Civil Medical Superintendent Dr. Ganesh Govekar. The dedicated efforts of the medical and nursing staff, security personnel, sanitation workers, and volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of this organ donation.
The New Civil Hospital continues to set a commendable standard for organ donation, and Fatesingbhai's selfless contribution marks another chapter in the hospital's impactful legacy.
