Crackdown on LPG Gas Agencies in Delhi-NCR
Investigation Begins After Shortage of LPG Cylinders Complaints
In response to numerous complaints about a shortage of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders, the government has initiated an investigation into the practices of gas agencies. In the Delhi-NCR region, random inspections of gas agencies have begun in an effort to ensure that they are delivering the correct amount of gas to consumers. This follows the implementation of the Consumer Protection Act 2019, which allows for legal action against gas agencies found to be delivering less than the standard amount of gas to consumers.
In recent years, the government has taken several steps to curb the black marketing of LPG and improve consumer protection. This includes a requirement for consumers to inform the delivery man about a message received on their registered mobile number before receiving their cylinder. However, the problem of under-delivery of gas still persists, with some consumers reporting that as much as 2-3 kg of gas is being extracted from their cylinders.
As a result, the Essential Commodities Act and the guidelines of gas companies are now being enforced to hold delivery men and gas agencies accountable for providing the correct amount of gas. Consumers are also encouraged to check the weight of their cylinder at the time of delivery and to report any instances of under-delivery. The implementation of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 has given consumers new rights and protections, and legal action will be taken against any gas agencies found to be breaking the rules.
