Child Fatally Mauled by Stray Dogs in Surat

Surat: The city has witnessed another tragic incident as a five-year-old child, Sahil, fell victim to a stray dog attack in Bhestan on Wednesday, 22 March. The assault occurred near Akash Apartment, opposite the Bhestan Fire Station, while Sahil was with his parents at a construction site where they worked.

With over 30 bite marks found on the young victim, it is believed that a pack of five to six dogs attacked Sahil simultaneously. Bystanders rushed to his rescue, but the child had already sustained severe injuries. He was initially taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and later referred to the Civil Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon examination.

This incident follows a recent similar case involving the death of a young girl whose cheek and part of her head were torn off by dogs. The city has also experienced a surge in accidents involving dogs chasing drivers at night, further highlighting the growing stray dog issue in Surat.

Local residents are questioning the effectiveness of the Surat Municipal Corporation's efforts to address this problem. A team from the corporation had visited Jodhpur city to observe their stray dog control measures, but it appears that no significant progress has been made in implementing similar strategies in Surat since their return. In light of these tragic events, the community is calling for urgent action to protect residents from further harm caused by stray dogs. Authorities are currently attempting to obtain CCTV footage of the attack on Sahil to gain a better understanding of the incident and to identify any potential measures that could prevent future occurrences.
