Ahmedabad Police Uncover Counterfeit Currency Ring Worth Rs 25 Lakh

Ahmedabad police have arrested four individuals and seized fake banknotes worth Rs 25 lakh in a counterfeit currency bust. The suspects allegedly operated a counterfeiting network, printing fake notes using methods depicted in a web series. The case highlights the potential for criminal activity inspired by online content and raises concerns about interstate connections.

Based on a tip-off, Zone-2 DCP officers arrested the four suspects in Chandkheda before the counterfeit notes could enter circulation. Late one night, police intercepted Shailesh Christian, who was reportedly carrying 20 bundles of fake Rs 500 notes, totaling Rs 10 lakh, in an Eeco car. During interrogation, Christian revealed that he, along with Parang alias Paco Vania and two other accomplices, had been producing the counterfeit notes using a color printer in a rented house near Dastan Circle.

The police have seized the fake notes, which lacked watermarks, and have launched a further investigation into the operation. Two of the four arrested suspects are residents of other states, raising suspicions of interstate connections. Authorities are questioning the suspects to determine the source of the fake notes and their intended recipients.

The arrests come as part of a broader crackdown on counterfeit currency in the region. In addition to the four individuals arrested in Chandkheda, Sardar Nagar police have apprehended three more suspects involved in a separate fake note operation. One of the suspects, Bharat Chavda, has a criminal record and resides in both Banaskantha and Ahmedabad. Police continue to investigate these cases, with a total of seven arrests made so far in connection with counterfeit currency operations.
