Surat Cooling Tower Demolition Carefully Planned Considering Board Exams

Surat, India - An 85-meter high cooling tower at the Utran Power Station in Mota Varachha was demolished today in a controlled explosion that took just five seconds. The timing of the demolition was carefully planned to avoid causing any disruption to students taking board exams at a nearby school. Initially scheduled for 3 p.m., the blast was rescheduled to 11 a.m. to accommodate the ongoing Class 12 exams at Gajera School.

Safety was a top priority during the demolition process. A special fire team was on standby, and police officers set up barricades to prevent anyone from approaching the tower. L.R. Patel, the security in-charge for the demolition, explained that the area surrounding the tower was divided into high-risk, medium-risk, and low-risk zones, with varying degrees of access and precautions.

In addition to considering the board exams, the demolition team also took special care to protect nearby infrastructure. A live gas line and an electric panel were situated close to the cooling tower, as well as chemical tanks at the Utran Power Station. The team ensured that flying debris would not puncture the chemical tanks or damage other nearby structures.

The meticulous planning and execution of the cooling tower demolition demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and consideration for the local community, especially the students taking their crucial board exams.
