Precision Demolition: 85-Meter Cooling Tower Collapses in Surat

Surat - The 85-meter cooling tower at Surat's Uttaran Power Station was demolished in just five seconds, collapsing like a house of cards due to a meticulously planned implosion. The demolition was led by expert Anand Sharma, who came from Rajasthan to oversee the operation. The entire process was carefully orchestrated to minimize damage to nearby structures, which were within a 10 to 15-meter radius of the tower.

A special team prepared for the demolition by drilling 1,300 holes into the tower's 72 pillars, filling them with 262.5 kg of explosives. To ensure a controlled collapse, the explosives were detonated in a precise sequence with millisecond accuracy. Despite the numerous detonations, only one large bang was heard due to the exact timing.

Kailash Metal Corporation of Ahmedabad was assigned the task of demolishing the cooling tower in a single blast, and they succeeded in bringing down the structure within five seconds. The demolition was not only a feat of engineering but also cost-effective, with a total expenditure of 30 to 40 lakh rupees.

This marks the 25th successful demolition of a structure in India by Anand Sharma and his team, showcasing the increasing adoption of advanced techniques for large-scale construction projects in the country.
