Surat: Illegal Gas Refilling Blast, Four Critically Injured
Surat – A burgeoning illegal gas refilling racket in Surat took a dangerous turn today as an explosion ripped through a makeshift refilling shop in Katargam GIDC, leaving four people with critical burn injuries.
The blast occurred while gas cylinders were being refilled at the shop, run by Munna Vinod Patel of Amroli. Munna, along with his brother-in-law's son, Om Prakash Patel, were refilling gas for two customers, Chhotu Damodar Mahnto and Veeru Barunsingh Jatav, both residents of the Katargam GIDC area.
The testing process following the refill triggered the sudden explosion, engulfing the shop in flames. Panic erupted as four individuals sustained severe burns. Local residents acted swiftly, alerting emergency services and rushing the injured to Smeer Hospital. All four victims are reported to have suffered burns exceeding 50% of their bodies.
Om Prakash Patel's condition is particularly concerning, with doctors placing him on ventilator support due to the severity of his injuries. Fire officials confirmed that the incident arose from illegal gas refilling conducted in a residential area. The blast caused significant damage to the shop, with the roof blown away by the force of the explosion.
This shocking incident underscores the grave dangers posed by illegal gas refilling operations. The blatant disregard for safety regulations not only jeopardizes the lives of those directly involved but also puts entire communities at risk. This near-tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stringent crackdowns on illegal gas rackets and stricter enforcement of safety protocols to prevent similar disasters from occurring in the future.
The investigation into the Katargam gas blast is ongoing, with authorities aiming to hold those responsible accountable and implement measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
