Rahul Gandhi Expected to Attend Defamation Case Verdict in Surat
Congress Begins Preparations for Grand Welcome
Surat - Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend the verdict announcement in a defamation case filed against him by Surat West MLA Purnesh Modi. The case revolves around a controversial statement made by Gandhi during the Lok Sabha elections, which allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Modi community. The final hearing has been completed, and the Surat Sessions Court is set to announce its decision on March 23.
Gandhi's comment, which claimed that all individuals with the Modi surname are "thieves," sparked the legal battle. He had cited Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, when making this statement. Purnesh Modi subsequently filed the defamation case, arguing that Gandhi's remark was damaging to the Modi community.
The case saw heated debates between the defense and prosecution, with both sides presenting their arguments in detail. Defense counsel Kirit Panwala confirmed that after listening to both parties, the court has set the judgment date as March 23, when Rahul Gandhi is expected to be present.
In anticipation of Gandhi's arrival, the Surat City Congress has begun preparations for a grand welcome. Hasmukh Desai, Surat City Congress President, stated that several leaders, including the State Congress Committee President, will be in Surat to greet Gandhi. Other opposition party leaders and representatives from various organizations are also expected to attend. Plans are being made to welcome Rahul Gandhi on his way from Surat airport to the court, though the final outline has yet to be determined.
