New International Terminal Launched as Inaugural Flight Connects Two Commercial Hubs
Surat, Gujarat – Air India Express soared to new heights, marking a historic moment for the city as it became the first airline to directly connect Surat with Dubai. This momentous occasion coincided with the inauguration of the new international terminal at Surat Airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, symbolizing a new era of connectivity for the burgeoning diamond hub.
Flight IX 173, carrying 171 passengers, took off at 11:40 am on Sunday, signifying the dawn of a direct air link between Surat and the glitzy metropolis of Dubai. Alok Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express, marked the occasion by presenting the inaugural boarding passes to guests, stating, "Surat is important for Air India Express. We are expanding our network with the new fleet and I am glad to be a part of this important moment of opening of the new terminal at Surat International Airport."
This direct route holds immense potential, as Singh pointed out, "Air India Express is committed to fueling Surat's growth story as we connect the City of Diamonds with the City of Gold with this historic flight." Currently, Air India Express is the sole operator of international flights from Surat, offering five weekly flights to Sharjah. The airline has committed to four weekly operations on the Surat-Dubai route, catering to passengers through its app, website, and other platforms.
Beyond Dubai, Air India Express seamlessly connects Surat with major Indian cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and Kolkata. With the new service, the airline's presence in Surat strengthens with 30 flights to and from the city, solidifying its position within its expanding network.
