Gujarat's Dairy Triumph: Crossing the Milestone of Rs 1 Lakh Crore

Gandhinagar, 16 December (Hindustan Reporter): Gujarat's dairy industry has reached unprecedented heights, surpassing the remarkable milestone of Rs 1 lakh crore. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) disburses a staggering Rs 200 crore daily to 36 lakh milk producers, highlighting the state's prowess in the dairy sector.

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to making Gujarat a leading state in milk production, the state is witnessing a surge in its dairy sector. The strategic use of advanced technology in agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry has catapulted Gujarat onto the global stage, with the fame of its dairy industry resonating worldwide.

Amul's Global Recognition

At the forefront of this success is GCMMF's Amul brand, which has successfully carved its niche globally. The state's achievement is rooted in the relentless efforts of lakhs of cattle farmers, with individuals like Jayeshbhai Shambhubhai Patel from Jharola village serving as inspirational figures.

From Surveyor to Successful Cattle Rearer

Jayeshbhai Patel's story exemplifies the transformative power of dedication and innovation. After an 18-year career as a surveyor in Vadodara and Mumbai, Jayeshbhai embraced animal husbandry, transitioning from small-scale farming to becoming a prominent cattle rearer. His scientific approach and adoption of advanced agricultural practices have resulted in a monthly income of around Rs 1.5 lakh.

Utilizing natural farming techniques for the past decade, Jayeshbhai emphasizes the use of cow dung and urine to create fertilizers and pesticides. Beyond dairy production, he generates additional income by selling these organic inputs to nearby farmers.

Amul's Impact on Farmers

Expressing gratitude for Amul's contribution, Jayeshbhai notes, "Because of Amul, we got a good breed, and it directly benefited in milk production. This increased our income and also increased our enthusiasm. Because of Amul, we started getting what we wanted."

As Gujarat gears up for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2024, Jayeshbhai highlights the significance of the event. Attending every summit, he attests to the immense benefits derived from the gathering, which serves as a platform for farmers to gain knowledge, share experiences, and explore innovative approaches.

Jayeshbhai extends his impact beyond his own farm, providing training on animal husbandry, natural farming, and diverse business models. His efforts have inspired many farmers, leading to increased incomes and a widespread shift towards sustainable and natural farming practices across the state.
