"One Nation One Challan" Implemented in Surat to Curb Traffic Violations
E-challans Sent Directly to Vehicle Owners through SMS
Surat has implemented the "One Nation One Challan" scheme to regulate traffic violations in the city. The scheme aims to provide a direct and efficient way of issuing e-challans to drivers who violate traffic rules. Traffic DCP Amita Vanani informed the public about the new system, stating that it was started on January 16, 2023, following the orders of the Gujarat Government.
As per the scheme, Surat city is being monitored through CCTV cameras, and e-challans will be sent directly to vehicle onwers' mobile phones through SMS. Over 15,000 e-challans have been generated since the scheme's implementation. The database created at the centralized National Informatics Center will also make it easier to track repeated offenses by drivers and enforce stricter compliance with traffic rules.
DCP Vanani emphasized the importance of paying any pending e-challans as soon as possible. The "One Nation One Challan" scheme will also prevent frequent clashes between motorists and traffic police. The database will also enable the reimbursement of e-challans if a driver travels to another state.
The implementation of "One Nation One Challan" is a significant step in improving traffic management and enforcing compliance with traffic rules in Surat. The efficient and direct approach of sending e-challans through SMS is expected to curb traffic violations and improve road safety in the city.
