In Surat, a woman reached out to the 181 Abhayam women's helpline after enduring ongoing harassment from her husband. The helpline's team intervened, informing the husband of the legal consequences of his actions, ultimately leading him to apologize and commit to changing his behavior.
The woman contacted the Abhayam helpline, describing her husband's repeated demands for physical relations in front of their four-year-old daughter. Responding to the call, the Abhayam team immediately offered support and assistance. Upon learning of the husband's conduct, the female officers on the team expressed shock and explained the relevant laws to him.
The woman, Parineeta, shared that she and her husband had been married for five years and had two children together. Her husband previously worked at an embroidery unit but had recently been taking money from her parents to pay rent and commute to work. However, instead of going to work, he would return home after her parents left and engage in physical relations with Parineeta during the day, in front of their young daughter.
After hearing the woman's tearful account of her ordeal, the Abhayam team confronted the husband about his actions and warned him of potential legal consequences if he continued this inhumane treatment. In response to the threat of police involvement, the husband apologized to his wife and promised not to engage in such behavior again.
