PM Modi Inaugurates Global Millets Conference and Issues Postage Stamps, Coins

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the two-day Global Millets Conference on Coarse Grains in New Delhi, coinciding with the International Year of Coarse Grains. During the event, the Prime Minister also issued a postage stamp and a coin to commemorate the occasion. The government has given the name "Shree Anna" to coarse grains, and the conference was attended by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and ministers from six other countries.

Proud to Lead the International Year of Coarse Grains

Addressing the event, PM Modi expressed pride in India leading the International Year of Coarse Grains, describing millets as a boon for farmers. He highlighted the involvement of several countries in the Millets convention and the emergence of various startups in India focusing on millets. Millet cultivation is now a priority in many Indian states.

Spearheading the Global Campaign

PM Modi stated that it was due to India's proposal and efforts that the United Nations declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. As the world celebrates this year, India is at the forefront of the campaign, with the Global Millets Conference as a significant step in this direction. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government has worked tirelessly to make Shri Anna a global movement, representing the hospitality of the country's tribal community and standing for chemical-free farming.
