Surat RTO Booms with New Vehicle Registration Process
Dealer-Level Registration Generates Rs 83 Crore in Revenue
Surat RTO department has seen a significant surge in revenue since the implementation of dealer-level registration for new vehicles in 2023. This move, aimed at simplifying the process for drivers, has resulted in the registration of over 53,000 new vehicles and generated an income of Rs 83 crore through taxes and fees.
The new process, mandated by a state government circular in 2023, allows dealerships to handle the registration process, including document verification and number plate issuance. This streamlines the process for drivers and saves them time and effort.
The department's income was further boosted by auction and selection fees during Diwali and Navratri. During this festive period, Surat RTO earned Rs 2 crore from auction processes and Rs 1 crore from selected number fees.
This substantial increase in revenue has positioned Surat RTO as one of the richest in the state, second only to Ahmedabad. The department's monthly income typically averages Rs 40 crore, but during Diwali and Navratri, the figure rises significantly, reaching Rs 45 crore in the months of October and November.
The success of the dealer-level registration system highlights its effectiveness in improving efficiency and generating revenue. This initiative has not only benefited the RTO but has also made the vehicle registration process more convenient for drivers in Surat.
