SGCCI Bridges the Gap: Surat and New York to Collaborate on Trade and Technology
Surat - December 5, 2023: In a significant move to promote business ties between Surat and the United States, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) hosted an industry meet under its ambitious SGCCI Global Connect Mission 84. The event, held at Avadh Utopia in Surat, brought together leading industrialists and businessmen from both regions to explore potential collaborations and partnerships.
Chief Guest Dilip Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs of the New York Mayor's Office, and Special Guest Chaturbhai Chhabhaya, Board Member of CMES (Construction Management and Engineering Services), Atlanta, USA, graced the occasion with their presence.
SGCCI President Ramesh Vaghasia, joining virtually from Mumbai, delivered a welcome address highlighting the strong economic ties between India and the US. He emphasized the potential for further growth, especially in trade between Surat and New York City.
Chamber of Commerce Vice President Vijay Mewawala underscored the importance of Mission 84 in facilitating direct business interactions between entrepreneurs from South Gujarat and the US.
The highlight of the event was the announcement of a 'Sister City Economic Agreement' between Surat and New York City, proposed by Deputy Commissioner Chauhan. This agreement aims to foster collaboration in areas like economic development, technology exchange, and trade.
Chauhan also invited the attendees to explore investment opportunities in various sectors across New York City, including information technology, textiles, diamonds, pharmaceuticals, and the hospitality industry. He extended full support to SGCCI members and pledged to provide assistance in navigating the business landscape in New York.
Chhabhaya, sharing his insights on doing business in the US, emphasized the ease of company registration and the healthy competition within American industries. He encouraged entrepreneurs to focus on quality, consistency, and commitment for success.
The event also focused on encouraging women entrepreneurs to participate actively in the US market. Additionally, a student exchange program was proposed to promote knowledge sharing and educational collaboration.
In a remarkable gesture, Chauhan announced the recognition of Diwali as a public holiday in New York City, acknowledging the growing Indian American community. He further mentioned the celebration of festivals like Durga Puja, Ganeshotsav, and Shivaji Jayanti in New York, showcasing the city's inclusivity and respect for diverse cultures.
