Hardik Singh and Savita Win Player of the Year at Hockey India Awards 2022

At the Hockey India 5th Annual Awards 2022 held in New Delhi, young midfielder Hardik Singh and experienced female goalkeeper Savita were awarded the Balbir Singh Sr Award for male and female Player of the Year for 2022. Both winners received a trophy and a cash prize of INR 25.00 Lakh each.

The ceremony began by honoring awardees from 2021 and 2022. For 2021, Indian Men's Hockey Team Legend Amit Singh Bakshi received the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award, while Harmanpreet Singh and Savita won the Balbir Singh Sr. Award for Player of the Year in the Men's and Women's categories, respectively.

Milestone Awards were presented to athletes who achieved significant milestones during the past year, including Manpreet Singh, Rani, Navjot Kaur, Mandeep Singh, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Lalremsiami, Harmanpreet Singh, and Karthi Selvam. Umpire Javed Shaikh was awarded for officiating in his 150th senior international match.

The Indian women's hockey team and the junior men's team were recognized with cash awards for their victories in the FIH Women's Nations Cup Spain 2022 and the Sultan of Johor Cup 2022, respectively.

Other annual award winners included Pritam Siwach, Krishan B Pathak, Harmanpreet Singh, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, Vandana Katariya, Mumtaz Khan, and Uttam Singh. Each of these awards carried a cash prize and a trophy.

Gurbux Singh received the final award of the day, the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award 2022, for his outstanding contribution to hockey.
