Gujarat Unseasonal Rains: 24 Killed, 71 Animals Dead; CM Patel Orders Relief Measures
Ahmedabad, India – November 27, 2023 – Unseasonal rains have wreaked havoc in the western Indian state of Gujarat, leaving 24 people dead and 71 animals perished. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, currently on a visit to Japan, has ordered relief measures and initiated an investigation into the lightning-related deaths.
On Sunday, torrential rains accompanied by thunderstorms lashed across Gujarat, triggering incidents of lightning that claimed the lives of 24 individuals. An additional 23 people sustained injuries in these incidents, leaving a trail of grief and despair among families.
The devastation extended to agricultural lands, with farmers facing extensive damage to their crops. The unseasonal rains have severely impacted the Rabi crop, particularly cumin cultivation, in the Banaskantha district.
Responding to the situation, Radhanpur MLA Lovingji Thakor has penned a letter to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel, urging them to provide assistance to farmers affected by the crop losses.
In a bid to address the crisis, Chief Minister Patel has instructed state officials to initiate relief measures and conduct a thorough investigation into the lightning-related fatalities. The government is committed to providing support to those affected by the unseasonal rains and ensuring their well-being.
