World's Highest Railway Bridge on Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir Almost Ready

The Chenab Railway Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, is expected to be completed by the third week of March, according to reports.

The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 27949 crore, is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway link project undertaken by the Konkan Railway Corporation Limited. The bridge is made of structural steel that can withstand temperatures ranging from minus 10 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius. This means that the bridge will remain unaffected by any weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.

The bridge is 1.3 km long and stands 35 meters higher than the 324-meter-high Eiffel Tower in France.

Over the past three years, engineers have been working on the bridge with the help of two giant cable cranes installed on both sides of the Chenab-Kauri Chor and Bakkal Chor rivers.
