Passenger Complaints about Long Queues and Chaos at Delhi Airport

New Delhi:  Chaos at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport continued on Wednesday as passengers complained about long waiting times for immigration and security checks.

Many travelers took to social media to express their frustration, with some reporting queues that lasted for up to three hours. Air passenger Tanushree Pandey tweeted, "It's an absolute mess at the Delhi International Airport. Yet again. Three-hour-long queues for immigration and security check. People are fainting, fighting. Most of the counters are not operational. Is this the new normal?"

The airport authorities responded to the complaints, saying, "We are not happy reading about your experience."

The Delhi airport is one of the busiest airports in India, with a daily average of four lakh passengers. The steady growth of aviation traffic over the past few months has led to longer queues at many airports, including Delhi.

In January 2023, nearly 1.25 crore passengers were carried by domestic airlines in India, compared to 64 lakh during the same period last year. The passenger load factor or occupancy of the airlines remained high, ranging from 80 to 90 percent.

Last December, the Delhi airport, especially T3, witnessed long queues of air passengers. Following complaints from passengers, the authorities and stakeholders held a meeting to discuss the capacities deployed and requirements to process passengers smoothly.

With no immediate solution in sight, passengers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and arrive at the airport well in advance to avoid inconvenience.
