Gujarat tops India in number of CNG stations
State has 1002 stations, accounting for 17% of the country's total
Gujarat has topped India in the number of CNG stations, with a total of 1002 stations as of July 2023. This represents 17% of the country's total of 5899 stations.
The state's CNG station network covers all 33 districts. Gujarat is followed by Uttar Pradesh (819 stations), Maharashtra (778 stations), the National Capital Territory of Delhi (480 stations), and Haryana (349 stations).
Gujarat is also leading the country in the number of domestic, commercial, and industrial PNG connections. As of July 2023, the state had 30,78,162 domestic PNG connections, 22,722 commercial connections, and 5733 industrial connections.
The state's government has been promoting the use of CNG as a cleaner and more efficient alternative to gasoline and diesel. CNG is a natural gas that is compressed and stored in tanks. It burns more cleanly than gasoline or diesel, and it produces fewer emissions.
