Rajkot Court Sentences Accused to Death in Srishti Raiyani Murder Case
Jayesh Girdhar Sarvaiya, the accused in the Srishti Raiyani murder case, has been sentenced to death by the Jetpur Sessions Court's Judge RR Chaudhary. The incident took place on March 16, 2021, when Srishti Raiyani, a class 11 student, was stabbed 34 times by Jayesh Girdhar Sarvaiya. Srishti's brother Harsh was also stabbed five times but managed to escape. The court's decision has created a buzz throughout Gujarat, and Srishti Rayani's parents and Harsh Rayani, the victim of the entire incident, were present in court during the hearing.
During the proceedings, the accused was asked about his education and work history, and the court took one hour to deliberate before passing the sentence. The case had become a sensation in Rajkot district and North Gujarat, with political leaders visiting the victim's families and demanding strict punishment for the accused.
Janak Patel, the Special Public Prosecutor in the case, presented evidence that proved the accused had planned the murder and purchased the knife used in the crime 12 days before the incident. The court also noted that the accused had a criminal mentality and had been previously booked under section 326.
The verdict has been welcomed by the victim's family and has set a precedent for other similar cases in the region.
