Ahmedabad : In a shocking incident, a mother-in-law in Ahmedabad allegedly killed her daughter-in-law to prevent her from inheriting land. The incident took place in the Kanbha area of Ahmedabad rural on October 28.
The victim, Mitalben Dabhi, was found dead in a water tank near her house in Kuha village. Her mother-in-law, Veenaben Dabhi, initially told the police that Mital had been electrocuted while starting the motor to fill water and died due to head injury.
However, the post-mortem report revealed that Mital had died of severe head injuries. On further investigation, the police found that Veenaben had pushed Mital into the water tank and then hit her with bricks to kill her.
The police also found that Veenaben's son, Kishan Dabhi, had been married twice. His first wife, Bhavnaben, had moved to her maternal home after their marriage failed. Bhavnaben was due to inherit a share of seven bighas of land from her maternal side.
Veenaben was worried that if Bhavnaben returned to the marital home, she would lose her claim to the land. Therefore, she conspired to kill Mital and make it look like an accident.
Veenaben's plan was to throw Mital into the water tank and then electrify the water. However, the police managed to foil her plan and arrest her.
Veenaben has been charged with murder. She is currently in police custody.
