Ayush Minister Inaugurates International Conference on Unani Medicine
New Delhi - Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Minister of Ayush, emphasized the need for evidence-based scientific research in the Ayush sector during his participation as the chief guest at the International Conference on Unani Medicine held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The Minister highlighted India's role in traditional medicine and how it has taken the initiative to establish the World Health Organization's Global Technical Network for Traditional Medicine.

Minister Sonowal also praised the Union Budget's 20% increase in the budget for the Ministry of Ayush and mentioned the recent inauguration of the National Institute of Unani Medicine in Ghaziabad. He stated that the Prime Minister's vision to build a robust healthcare system remains solid and that the Ayush sector needs to strengthen its research capabilities and academic facilities to achieve the goal.
The event was also attended by Union Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju, who emphasized the importance of India's rich traditional system of medicine, particularly in providing relief during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, spoke about the importance of NABH QCI quality certification in gaining more acceptance for Ayush systems. He stated that the Ministry of Ayush aims to get entry-level NABH certification for 12,500 Ayush wellness centers by the end of 2023.
On the occasion, the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM) launched a mobile app on common remedies in Unani Medicine and various publications were released. The International Conference on Unani Medicine is being organized in hybrid mode and is expected to be attended by over 1300 delegates, resource persons, academicians, researchers, and industry representatives.
