Surat Municipality Cracks Down on Stray Cattle Problem
Animal Boxes Built in Two and a Half Days After Court Reprimand
Surat, October 31, 2023: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has built animal boxes for 193 stray cattle in two and a half days in a bid to crack down on the problem of stray cattle. The move comes after the Gujarat High Court reprimanded the state government over the issue last week.
The SMC has formed a joint team with the Collector's Office and the police to catch stray cattle in three shifts. On the first day of the campaign, the SMC caught and sent 80 stray cattle to animal shelters. On the second day, 54 stray cattle were caught and sent to shelters. So far, 49 stray cattle have been caught and sent to shelters on the third day of the campaign.
The government has directed all municipal corporations and municipalities in Gujarat to take effective action to eliminate the problem of stray cattle. The SMC's crackdown on the problem is a welcome step, and it is hoped that it will help to reduce the number of accidents caused by stray cattle and improve the overall well-being of the animals.
The SMC has also been working to raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare among the public. The civic body has launched a campaign called "Animal First" to promote compassion and empathy towards animals. The campaign is aimed at educating the public about the rights of animals and encouraging them to report cases of animal cruelty.
The SMC's efforts to tackle the problem of stray cattle and promote animal welfare are commendable. It is hoped that these efforts will help to make Surat a more humane city for all creatures, great and small.
