Surat: Dog Terror; Children Attacked, Afraid to Leave Homes

Surat : On Monday, Maneka Mishra, a resident of Siddhi Ganesh Society, reached the civil hospital with her two children, aged 9 and 10 years, to get them vaccinated after they were bitten by dogs.

Mishra told reporters that the terror of dogs has increased a lot in recent times in the locality. Dogs are attacking children playing in the society, and the prevalence of dogs has increased due to dirt and fish shops. She said that more than 15 people have been attacked by dogs in the last few days, and her sons have been bitten by dogs three times each.

Mishra's 9-year-old son, Shobhit, who was bitten on his leg while picking up a stick on the road, said that he is now afraid to leave the house.

Local residents have expressed concern over the increasing number of dog bite cases and have demanded that the Surat Municipal Corporation take steps to control the stray dog population.

The SMC has said that it is aware of the problem and is taking steps to address it. The civic body has launched a drive to catch stray dogs and vaccinate them against rabies. However, residents say that the measures taken by the SMC are not enough and that more needs to be done to protect the public from dog attacks.
