Young Man Arrested for Smuggling Two Lakh Dirhams in Surat Flight
DRI Seizes Currency Hidden in Books , Clothes & a Bag
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested a young man on a flight to Sharjah from the airport in Surat, India, for carrying two lakh dirhams, equivalent to Rs 45 lakh. The authorities discovered the currency, hidden in books and clothes as well as in a bag, during a routine investigation at the airport.
The young man, who resides in the Bhestan-Unn area of Surat, had admitted to the authorities that he was taking the currency to Sharjah to purchase gold. The DRI is now conducting further investigations to uncover the source of the currency and any individuals involved in the crime.
The seizure of the two lakh dirhams highlights the importance of vigilant enforcement by the DRI to prevent illegal activities such as currency smuggling. The agency will continue to monitor flights and take action against individuals who violate currency regulations.
