Surat's Metro Rail Project Progresses as TBM Parts rolled out for Underground Tunnel

Surat's ambitious Metro Rail project is set to progress as parts of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) have been rolled out for the construction of the underground metro tunnel in Chowkbazar.

Surat's Metro Rail project is moving ahead at full speed with plans to build elevated and underground stations on a 42 km route. The first phase will see a 6.47 km underground route built in the city with the help of a tunnel boring machine (TBM).

Currently, the Gulmark agency has launched a TBM machine to construct a 1.2 km tunnel from Kapodra to Labheshwar Chowk. Another TBM machine has also been launched for another track next to this tunnel. J.Kumar Infra has started unloading TBM machine parts in Chowkbazar.

The contractor is set to start ring construction in April and tunneling in May. The tunnel from Kapodra to Surat Railway Station will be constructed by Gulmark Company, with the tunnel being prepared from Kapodra to Labheshwar Chowk in the first phase. Both TBMs have been commissioned at the site.

The TBM machine will start with a slow cutting speed, but work will gradually become faster. J.Kumar will construct tunnels for three underground metro stations, namely Chowkbazar, Maskati, and Surat railway stations.

The progress of Surat's Metro Rail project is set to bring significant changes to the city's transportation system, providing citizens with a more efficient and sustainable mode of travel.
