Gujarat Government to Organize Garib Kalyan Melas

Ahmedabad : The Gujarat government has decided to organize Garib Kalyan Melas (Welfare Fairs for the Poor) in the coming days in view of the upcoming general elections to local self-government institutions and the Lok Sabha. The fairs will provide various types of toolkits to poor people free of cost to help them run their families.

Officials have started preparations to organize the Garib Kalyan Melas. The fairs will be held in major cities and district headquarters of the state, and assistance will be paid directly to the beneficiaries in the government departments.

The government has also started planning the Garib Kalyan Mela for the year 2023-24. The Development Commissioner has informed various departments, collectors, municipal commissioners, and district development officers to carry out work related to the Garib Kalyan Mela.

The departments that are going to pay assistance to individual beneficiaries have also been asked to provide the information about assistance payment on the website. They have also been asked to register data entry in the software prepared by the Office of the District Development Commissioner for the Garib Kalyan Mela by October 27.

The Municipal Corporation and district-wise TDO, Mamlatdar have also been instructed to coordinate by giving information about the beneficiaries and the currently running scheme in each zone.

Following the recommendation of the Zaveri Commission, 30 percent OBC reservation has been announced in local self-government institutions. Due to this, elections can be held after Diwali in institutions where elections are pending, from Gram Panchayat to Municipal Corporation. Also, keeping in mind the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year, a Garib Kalyan Mela will be started.

Since the budget is likely to come early this time in the state, a request has also been made to spend the allocation of the current year's budget as soon as possible.
