Surat Diamond Bourse Ready for Inauguration on December 17, New Airport Terminal Likely to Get International Status
PM Modi Expected to Inaugurate Terminal Building Along With Diamond Bourse
Surat, October 27 : The Surat Diamond Bourse is ready for inauguration on December 17, and there is a strong possibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate the newly constructed terminal building at Surat Airport on the same day.
The government has sanctioned Rs 353 crore for the redevelopment of Surat airport in 2022, of which Rs 163 crore is for construction of a new terminal building and expansion of the existing terminal building on both sides. The new terminal building is now 100 percent complete.
In January 2019, Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Rs 353 crore project, which includes terminal building expansion, apron, and parallel taxi tracks. Of these works, the terminal building is the only work that has been completely completed. The work of the new airport apron at a cost of Rs 72 crore is currently ongoing.
The ongoing development work at Surat Airport has been targeted to be completed before the launch of Surat Diamond Burse. In order to increase the number of flights and provide international level facilities, the number of aerobridges is also being increased. Out of 5 new aerobridges, 4 have been installed at the airport.
The new terminal building will be 4-star compliant and will be able to handle 1,800 passengers during peak hours. It will have modern facilities of 20 check-in counters, 5 aerobridges, 13 immigration counters, and 5 baggage carousels.
The under-construction terminal building is expected to help passengers in easy, comfortable, and hassle-free travel.
