Surat Police Raids Spas Under Guise of Prostitution, Arrests 90
Strict action to be taken against illegal prostitution businesses, says Police Commissioner
Surat, October 25, 2023: The Surat Police has cracked down on illegal prostitution businesses running under the guise of spas in the city. In a coordinated effort, various teams of the crime branch, including the city SOG and PCB, have conducted raids over the past week, resulting in the arrest of 90 people and the registration of 16 cases.
Police Commissioner Ajay Tomar said that the city police is always trying to maintain the dignity of women and ensure that no element misuses the holy festival of Navratri. "We have launched a campaign to raid and check all such places and take strict action against the perpetrators," he said.
The police commissioner also said that action has been taken to cancel the licenses of hotel owners and managers found involved in such activities around city schools and attracting youth.
In the year 2023, the Surat Police has reported 47 cases of immoral trafficking, arresting 101 accused and rescuing 197 women who were forced into prostitution. Of these, 52 are foreign women.
Police Commissioner Tomar said that the Surat Police is committed to cracking down on all forms of illegal activities in the city. "We will not tolerate any such immoral prostitution activity in Surat," he said.
