Shubman Gill Reflects on his Century in Ahmedabad Test against Australia
Gill didn't want to squander the opportunity to score big on a good wicket
India's opener Shubman Gill has shared his thoughts on his remarkable innings during the third day of the Ahmedabad Test against Australia. Gill scored 128 from 235 balls, his second Test century and first in India. He stated that he didn't want to waste the opportunity to score big on a good wicket as he was uncertain about when he would get to bat on such a surface again.
Gill, who has been in and out of the Indian team, made his return in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, replacing out-of-form opener KL Rahul. In an interview with teammate Cheteshwar Pujara on BCCI.tv after the match, Gill talked about his approach during his innings.
The 23-year-old opener said that he was trying to remain positive and focus on singles, waiting for bad balls to go for his shots. He also talked about the need to balance his approach against spinners and fast bowlers.
Gill and Pujara put up a partnership of 113 runs for the second wicket, after captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 35 on Day 3, which helped India strengthen their position in the match. Gill expressed that he was feeling physically drained after fielding for 160 overs and batting the whole day, but also acknowledged that getting cramps meant he was playing well on a good pitch.
On Day 4, India trail by 118 runs with Virat Kohli batting on 88 and Srikar Bharat at 25.
