Surat RTO earns Rs 68 lakh in auction of fancy vehicle numbers

Surat: Surat Regional Transport Office (RTO) has earned Rs 68 lakh in auction of fancy vehicle numbers, with people spending lakhs to get their favorite number.

The RTO conducted the auction process for the new range of two-wheelers and four-wheelers in view of the increasing sale of vehicles during the Navratri festival.

Dhruv Patel paid Rs 3.91 lakh to get car number 1111 in his Fortuner car, while Vinod Kumar paid Rs 1.74 lakh to get number 7777. Dhrumilshah paid Rs 1.1 lakh for number 9999.

Other fancy numbers that fetched high prices include 0007 (Rs 1.05 lakh), 1100 (Rs 51,000), 1008 (Rs 51,000), 0001 (Rs 46,000), 0999 (Rs 46,000), 2222 (Rs 40,000) and 0333 (Rs 40,000).

The auction process was conducted for the first time in Surat since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The RTO had earned Rs 60 lakh in the previous auction held in 2020.

The high prices paid for fancy vehicle numbers reflect the love of Suratis for numbers that they consider lucky. Many people believe that these numbers bring good luck and prosperity to them.
