Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel takes decision to strengthen rural cleanliness
Gandhinagar : The Gujarat government has decided to extend door-to-door solid waste collection and disposal services to 174 gram panchayats located within the outgrowth areas of 22 'A' category municipalities in the state.
This decision was taken by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel after detailed brainstorming on making the Panchayati Raj system more efficient during the annual brainstorming camp of the state government held recently.
Under the new system, the Gram Panchayats will be responsible for door-to-door collection of solid waste in their area and bringing it to the dumping site of the nearest municipality. The responsibility of processing such solid waste has been handed over to the concerned municipality.
A district level five-member committee will have complete authority regarding all types of planning, supervision, implementation, and decisions related to sanitation and hygiene system in Gram Panchayat areas. The concerned District Collector will serve as the Chairman of the District Level Committee and the Director of the concerned District Rural Development Agency will serve as the Member Secretary. The concerned District Development Officer (DDO) and the Regional Municipal Commissioner of the concerned zone have been included as other members of the committee.
This decision is a significant step towards strengthening rural cleanliness in Gujarat. It will ensure that all gram panchayats in the state have access to door-to-door waste collection and disposal services, which will help to improve the health and well-being of rural residents.
