Surat Municipal Corporation tests Mawa before Chandni Padwa festival
Ghari worth crores of rupees will be sold during the festival
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has started testing Mawa, a key ingredient in Ghari, ahead of the Chandni Padwa festival, which will be celebrated with great pomp in the city in the coming days.
Ghari worth crores of rupees is expected to be sold during the festival, and the SMC is taking steps to ensure that the food item is safe for consumption.
On Thursday, the SMC's Food Department raided establishments selling Mawa in the city and took samples for testing. If any sample fails the test, legal action will be taken against the establishment.
The SMC has also advised people to buy Ghari from reputed sweet traders and to avoid buying it from street vendors.
People should also check the expiry date of the Ghari before buying it and should not consume it if it is past the expiry date.
