Gujarat Chief Minister Patel Urges Banks to Provide Active Cooperation for the Widespread Success of Loan Assistance Schemes

Gandhinagar : Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday called upon the banks to provide more active cooperation for the widespread success of the loan assistance schemes of the Central and State Government.

In the 178th meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) in Gandhinagar, the Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's generous spirit of providing financial assistance to the last mile citizens and poor people to bring them into the mainstream is being implemented by the banks more and more actively. He expected the banks to provide help in this context.

The Chief Minister advocated that where the government is the guarantor, banks should provide easy loans especially to small traders, rural farmers, livestock farmers and women self-help groups.

He also requested the bankers to compare the NPA of loan assistance repayment and other loan assistance repayment in this context. The Chief Minister suggested the bankers to develop the process of giving branch wise loans in such loan schemes and said that as a result, the last mile people - the needy people in the interior areas will get quick loans and the target of the schemes will be achieved.

The Chief Minister said that the government is committed to stand with the bankers for the successful implementation of the schemes. He also said that if bankers also bring their problems to the notice of the state government, then the problem can be solved together.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has become the fifth largest economy in the world, the banks will help in taking it to the third position and maintain Gujarat's position as the growth engine of the country. The contribution will be important.

Chief Secretary Raj Kumar described the banking system as the lifeline of the economy and said that bankers should cooperate in taking it forward. He said that when we have sufficient resources, we should bring qualitative improvements in the social sector by taking new initiatives with the help of data analytics for loan assistance etc.

The Chief Secretary requested the banks to actively cooperate in expanding the scope of public welfare schemes like Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, KCC, PM Swanidhi, Jan Dhan Account and Swamitva Yojana.

SLBC Convenor Ashwini Kumar explained the objective of this meeting in his address. Ajay Khurana, Executive Director, Bank of Baroda and Chairman, SLBC, gave the welcome address and Smt. Nisha Nambiar, CGM Incharge, Reserve Bank of India, gave the relevant address.

In this meeting, through presentations, the loan targets and progress of various public welfare schemes of the state and central government were reviewed. Senior officials of various banks including the state lead bank and NABARD attended the meeting.
