Gujarat Government Extends Golden Jubilee Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme for Three Years

Gandhinagar : The Gujarat government has decided to extend the Golden Jubilee Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme for the next three years, from 2024-25 to 2026-27. The scheme provides grants to cities and metros for physical and social infrastructure projects.

Under the scheme, grants are allotted for projects such as storm water drainage systems, water storage and pond beautification works, urban roads, water supply, sewerage systems, street lights, urban health centers, hospitals, Anganwadis, libraries, and sports complexes.

The scheme also covers urban mobility projects such as urban bus services, traffic management, railway overbridges, under bridges, ring roads, flyover bridges, and underpasses. In addition, works that establish the unique identity of cities, such as heritage and tourism, exhibition halls, Panchshakti theme-based traffic islands, riverfronts, water bodies, landscaping, science centers, planetariums, museums, and amphitheaters, are also included under the scheme.

So far, the state government has sanctioned Rs 48,736 crore for more than 284,000 works under the scheme. A budget provision of Rs 57,000 crore has been made so far for this flagship scheme.

The Golden Jubilee Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2009-10, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. The scheme was launched to meet the basic facilities and needs of urban people due to increasing urbanization in the state.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has decided to continue the scheme for another three years in view of the wide public support it has received and the need for the benefits of the scheme in various works of city welfare.
