Surat : The Surat Police averted a Grisha-like massacre on October 14, 2023, when they arrested a lover for trying to kill his girlfriend in a hotel room in the Punagam area of the city.
The accused, Nilesh Shantibhai Sondagar, is a resident of Punagam and was in a love affair with a 20-year-old girl living in the same area. However, their relationship was strained due to the girl's phone often being busy.
On October 14, Nilesh called the girl to room number 104 of The World Hotel near DR World, Punagam. The two got into a heated argument and Nilesh attacked her with a deadly weapon, fatally injuring her neck, head, and body.
The hotel staff, upon hearing the commotion, rushed to the room and informed the police. Nilesh was apprehended and the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment.
ACP P.K. Patel of the Puna police station said that Nilesh suspected that the girl was talking to another youth. This led to a fight between the two and Nilesh attacked his girlfriend in a fit of rage.
The girl is currently in critical condition in the hospital. Nilesh has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under the section of attempt to murder. The police are also investigating the role of the hotel in the incident.
This incident is a reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help if you or someone you know is in an abusive relationship.
