Fastag-based parking facility to be launched at Ahmedabad airport to ease traffic congestion

The Ahmedabad airport is set to introduce a Fastag-based parking system to ease traffic congestion and streamline parking facilities. The new system will be launched this month and will operate like Fastag-enabled tollgates. The system will scan the Fastag affixed to the car as it enters the parking facility and automatically deduct the parking fee from the car's Fastag account when the passenger exits based on the time elapsed.

The new system will reduce turnaround time for entering and exiting parking spaces, reduce waiting times in parking spaces, and enable cashless transactions. It is also expected to help reduce long queues of vehicles at parking checkpoints at airports. The implementation of this new system is part of the airport's larger parking automation project.

Currently, the airport handles at least 37,000 passengers a day, and an estimated 15,000 cars, including private and commercial vehicles, pass through the airport every day. The airport operator charges a minimum of Rs. 90 for parking, which increases as the parking period extends. The Fastag-based parking system will provide a cashless and efficient solution to the traffic problems faced at the Ahmedabad airport.
