Surat, October 14, 2023: Former Gujarat Pradesh Congress President and Gujarat Assembly Congress Party leader Amit Chavda met with diamond workers in Surat on Friday to discuss their issues.
Chavda said that the diamond industry is facing a recession, especially for gem artists, and that the government should announce an economic relief package for them. He also said that the government should revive the Ratna Deep Yojana, which was launched during the global recession to help gem artists.
Chavda also demanded that the government cancel the professional tax imposed on gem artists and that it take action against companies that are violating the Factory Act. He said that the Congress will fight for the rights of gem artists if the government does not take action.
The diamond industry in Surat is one of the largest in the world. It employs millions of people and contributes significantly to the state's economy. However, the industry has been facing challenges in recent years, including the global economic slowdown and the war between Russia and Ukraine.
