Gujarat Government Takes Major Decisions for Students Under National Education Policy 2020
Subtitle: Re-Examination of All Subjects of Class 12 Science Stream, Supplementary Examination of Three Subjects for Class 10 Failed Students, More Objective Questions in Board Exams
Gandhinagar, October 13: The Gujarat Government has taken many important decisions in the larger interest of the students of the state under the National Education Policy 2020 of the Central Government.
The decisions were taken in a high-level meeting held in Gandhinagar on Thursday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister. Gujarat Education Minister Kuberbhai Dindor, Minister of State for Education Prafulbhai Panseria, Chief Secretary Raj Kumar and Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister K. Many senior secretaries including Kailashnathan were also present in this meeting.
The following are the key decisions taken by the Gujarat Government:

Re-examination of all subjects of Class 12 Science stream will be held in the month of June-July. Students who have passed Class 12 Science stream and want to improve their results can either re-exam for all the subjects or they can also re-exam for those subjects in which they have not got good results. Out of the two exams, the exam which has higher result (best of two) will be considered acceptable.

At present, supplementary examination of two subjects is taken for the students who have failed in class 10, but now according to the new decision, supplementary examination of three subjects will be taken instead of two.

At present, supplementary examination of one subject is taken for the students who have failed in Class 12 General Faculty, but now according to the new decision, supplementary examination of two subjects will be taken.

In the Class 10 and Class 12 General Faculty board exams, the present number of objective questions will be increased from 20 per cent to 30 per cent and the number of descriptive questions will be reduced from 80 per cent to 70 per cent. Not only this, instead of internal options in descriptive questions, common options will be given in all the questions.

It has also been decided in this meeting to keep 50 percent MCQs (OMR) in the board examination of Class 12 Science Faculty and to give common option in all the questions instead of internal option in 50 percent descriptive questions.
These decisions will be implemented from the academic year 2023-24. The Education Department has also issued necessary guidelines in this regard.
The Gujarat Government's decisions are aimed at providing more opportunities to students to improve their grades and to make the board exams more objective and fair. These decisions are also in line with the National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes on holistic development of students and on making education more relevant and equitable.
