Surat : Four people were injured after a car driver lost control of the steering wheel in Surat's Athwalines area on Tuesday. The driver, Suresh Athawale, is suspected to have been drunk at the time of the accident.
According to police reports, Athawale was asked by his employer to take an Activa to grind flour. However, Athawale instead took the employer's car without permission. When the employer did not return for a long time, he reported Athawale to the police as a missing person.
At the same time, the police received information about a car accident in Adarsh Pachhat Nagar. When the police arrived at the scene, they found that Athawale was the driver of the car. He had driven the car carelessly and hit four people, including two sweepers of the Surat Municipal Corporation. Two of the people were seriously injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The entire incident of the accident was captured in a CCTV camera installed nearby. CCTV footage shows that Athawale lost control of the steering wheel and drove the car randomly. After the accident, Athawale rammed the car into a house and tried to flee. However, he was caught by nearby people and handed over to the police.
Athawale has been arrested by the police and is currently undergoing a medical examination. If the medical report confirms that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, he will be charged accordingly.
