Surat's Metro Rail Construction Creates Uproar Due to Potholes and Excavations

SURAT: For several years, the ongoing Metro Rail construction in Surat has led to numerous dug-up areas across the city, much to the displeasure of its residents. Instances of pits being excavated right outside houses and shops have been reported, resulting in considerable inconvenience for locals trying to access their properties.

One such incident came to light in the Matawadi area of Varachha. Astonishingly, after digging a significant pit, the metro contractor left without taking any remedial measures. However, the resilient people of Varachha came up with a solution. They constructed a bridge over the pit, facilitating vehicular traffic.

A video has emerged showing locals making do with an iron plate placed over an excavated pit caused by a water line leak during the metro work in Dahyapark Varsha Society, Varachha Matawadi. The makeshift iron plate bridge is the only way for vehicles to cross, raising concerns over its safety.

Residents claim this isn't an isolated issue. "Pits have been dug up throughout Surat. Motorists are navigating these rough terrains at the risk of damaging their vehicles," one local lamented. Concerns mount as the Municipal Corporation seemingly appreciates the work of the Metro contractor while turning a blind eye to these hazardous conditions. Residents stress the mental toll of driving through such treacherous routes daily.

Another resident expressed the bureaucracy's sluggish pace: "Lodging a complaint seems like a task that would take years." Despite causing traffic congestion due to cranes working overhead, the Municipal Corporation remains notably silent on these pressing concerns.
